Sean
My name is Sean Fox and I am the Director of Studies here at ABC Pathways.
I am from Vancouver, Canada, and have been teaching English to foreign language students for more than 7 years. I have taught young kids, teenagers and adults. As well as teaching in Hong Kong, I have also taught in Vancouver and Japan. Before starting my English teaching career I was a certified teacher assistant and alternate programmes worker for the Vancouver School board.
My main role at ABC Pathways now is to hire, train and support our teachers. I also have the opportunities to train parents in our synthetic phonics programme, as well as work closely with government schools and their teachers that are looking for support from ABC to strengthen the English standard in their schools.
I have lived in Hong Kong since January, 2004, and have been working and teaching at ABC Pathways since that time.
Rupert
Hello, my name is Rupert Procter and I'm 30 years old. I have been a part of the ABC team since 2002 and I am currently the Programme Director here at ABC Pathways School. My background in teaching goes back around 10 years when I took my training in England, teaching adults of different ages, backgrounds and abilities from all over the world. Around 2002 I came to Hong Kong to teach English to children in an international kindergarten and my passion for teaching young learners began there. I am a big fan of the setup of ABC Pathways, the small classes and excellent interactive materials encourage maximum participation from the students and give them a fantastic opportunity to practice their English Language skills by speaking in the class. The small class sizes and thematic exercise books also give opportunities for students to learn about current affairs and the world around them and present their knowledge through creative projects.
Vivian
Hi there! My name is Vivian Mai and this will be my fourth year teaching at ABC Pathways School. I have been teaching for almost 6 years now. Before joining ABC, I was teaching English at a Japanese school. I'm very delighted to work with people from different nationalities and meeting people from different cultural backgrounds. I came from a very cold place called Winnipeg in Canada, where temperatures can drop to as low as -45C in the winter! So, it did take some time to get adjusted to the hot climates in HK. On days where I’m not teaching, I enjoy going to the beach, wakeboarding or watching movies at home. As a teacher, it is very rewarding to see the success and progress each student make as they are learning and developing their skills every day. I enjoy and have a lot of fun teaching and learning from my students as well. Our small classes allow children to all have the opportunity to express and develop their thoughts and ideas in a conductive and effective manner. I always encourage my students to join in and discuss or express their thoughts with everyone in class. Meanwhile, I find it very positive to be able to interact with my students and have them learn while having fun at the same time. English is always a must - "English please, no Chinese! "
Billy
My name is Billy Eisenberg. I am from a place called Yonkers New York in the USA, which is a suburb of New York just 15 miles from Manhattan. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading, watching a good film with my wife and practicing card magic. If I wasn't a teacher, I'd certainly love to be a professional card magician.
I've been teaching English in Hong Kong for eight years, five of which I'm happy to say have been here at ABC. I love working with kids and find it very rewarding to see the progress my students make throughout a course. Every lesson is different, so teaching never gets boring! I think getting students involved in all that goes on in the classroom is an important component to developing their English skills. I'm always encouraging my students to speak out in class and help one another by working together. This methodology of teaching has served my students well throughout the years.
Steve
I am Stephen Hughes. I was born and educated in South Africa. It's a very outdoors lifestyle over there, and I spent much of my time in my school years out in the sunshine, chasing a ball or at the beach. I have always been interested in travelling, so after completing my education I moved to the UK where I had a career in corporate sales. What interested me most in the job was training other people, and I was particularly fascinated by the psychology of our decision making and what motivates us. This led me to study Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), which is a most useful tool for teaching. When the travel bug bit me again I moved to Hong Kong and I began teaching children. I have been with ABC Pathways since 2006. I have watched the school grow considerably since then, and that is a testament to the effectiveness of its programmes and the positive impact it has on its students.
